THE WAY I SEE IT

Ever since I joined media studies I came across this question very often that why media? Why not engineering commerce or medical. I never spoke up my mind. I use to dough this question every time someone asks me. In the course of reaching towards the end of my degree, I realized that I always wanted to do something different. I never go for something that majority people are doing already that was the sole reason I changed my mind from doing Bachelors in Business to Bachelor in Journalism.

Few days ago, a friend of mine asked me that what it is like to be a media student.  I replied and for once, I gave my opinion on this Question. I told her it is as you are different from other, not following the bandwagon.  It is as a source of motivation that what you say is important and can have an impact on your readers. It is hectic at times because Journalism is all about meeting your deadlines, if you want to be a successful journalist. It gets annoying for you at times when you have to step out of your comfort zone. When you need to burst the bubble you live in to focus on your story. It is adventurous when you are exposed to different real life situations and dealing them on your own. It makes you feel like a more realistic person in which you zoom in to a more realistic approach to social problems you are dealing with on daily basis. It is like a responsible citizen, a well aware student who is keeping things into consideration that are happening around them.  It is like not being immediately influenced by someone. They take their time in making a statement about someone but when they do, they do not go back on their words so that also make them determined as well. Journalist popular personality trait, which I came to know, is their cynicism which is to an extent is true because they are the people who have lived close to human reality which sadly is harsh so journalist do tends to get cynic.

Supermo Race

Karachi: On 1 November TTP  leader Hakimullah Mehsud was killed in a drone strike by US. After his death there is an uproar of who will going to be the next TTP leader. Hakimullah mehsud came as a leader after the death of Baitullah Mehsud by US drone strike in 2009.

Khan Sajna said, who has masterminded several major operations was reported as appointed chief of TTP but a spokesperson form North Waziristan declined the statement and said formal announcement will be made in coming days.

Omer Khalid is also one of the strongest contestants for the chief of TTP race. He has worked closely with Hakimullah Mehsud and is currently the head of Taliban in Mohmand tribal agency.

Another Senior Taliban Commander  in the contestants list is Mullah Fazullah, The powerful Sawat leader who is said to be based in Afghanistan Nuristan province. He is reportedly holding meetings to determine his group’s strategies.

Khan is believed to be a mastermind involved in many major attacks and have experince in Afghanistan fighting

However, Omer khaild is the only surviving senior Taliban commander who have operated under Hakimullah’s supervision .

Whereas Fazullah is not from the mehsud clan and is thereforethere are less chances of Mullah Fazullah to be a TTP leader.

When you give more importance to someone then yourself, you tend to lose your importance in their eyes. This was what happened with Nawaz Sharif on his first visit to US as a prime minister of Pakistan to strengthen Pakistan and United state relationship but did that happen? My answer to that question is a straight No.

Starting from his arrival at the Washington airport, our prime minister wasn’t  received by US officials but diplomats which is a very obvious eye opener for people thinking of this meeting as a success, that where this relationship is heading. In contrast to that if Barak Obama was to visit Pakistan, All officials including our Prime Minister would have been there standing in their respect. There is no problem giving people respect and importance but more significant is to get that level of respect and importance in return which Premier did not get then PM was to host important issues with the US President including Drone Attacks, Regional security issues and energy crisis. US stance on all the above issues we know. For that, we cannot blame US but our prime minister because when you are a prime minister of a state and you are not good at second language (English) then you do not make a shame out of yourself by paper reading in front of the president of United States, which is a clear shame of Pakistan. Now even a student tries to avoid paper reading while he is presenting and here our Prime Minister trying to flatter US president by paper reading. A translator is appointed; wherever there is a language barrier and when our premier can go two days ahead of his meeting to Barak Obama then I think our Prime minister can afford a translator as well in order to get away from this shame. We will repeatedly making these mistakes until we start giving importance to self-appearance and more importantly to our reputation, what others think of Pakistan should be important to us in first place and later it will make an impact in the other person’s mind as well as it will help to form a respectable image of Pakistan.

Pakistan Idol

Posted: October 14, 2013 in JOURNALISM, Opinions

People in Pakistan are now taking seriously the gravity of entertainment industry, more importantly theater, film and music. Although we have still a way to go for developments in these industries but now some people are, making efforts and others are acknowledging it even in low budget projects. We have a platform for theater and film production but not for music. For people who want to achieve fame in the field of music it was a dilemma that where to display their talents.

This tight spot is about get worked out because in collaboration with FremantleMedia and Geo Network, Pakistan idol is going to start in Pakistan for which auditions have already started and there is a huge crowd out in long queues to show their singing talent and get registered. For me, this is the best chance any person with a good voice can have to make a mark in their lives.

On many grounds, this initiative will be beneficial for Pakistan over all in a way that first it is giving a common person an opportunity to touch the heights of success just by their talents. Then we have fremantlemedia collaboration which is an international company giving their best hits like American idol and Indian idol. This will not only help Pakistan commercially but also it will serve as a container to have our talent gives out to our music industry. We all have seen what happened with our prominent singers like Atif Aslam, Ali Zafar, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. They are distracted from our industry that is justified because when you have lack of resources to polish your talent you move to a place where it is given that is human nature. On the other hand, it is also giving hand in creating a positive image of Pakistan around the world that we are something other than terrorists.

Therefore, for me it is something worth paying attention because it is all in one and once in a lifetime opportunity. Instead of criticizing things around us, we should start appreciating the brighter side of these types of initiatives. We already have many depressing things going around its time for us go with the flow and let you walk parallel to the world instead of staying behind and criticizing our every step towards a better Pakistan.
